Update from Laurens County Capital Sales Tax Committee

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

County Council received an update last night from the Laurens County Capital Sales Tax Committee. This is the group designated to receive proposals from entities throughout Laurens County about projects that could improve our county, if funds were available. The committee is mandated to determine the most critical projects needed. They will then be on the ballot this coming November when Laurens County voters decide whether to add a capital project sales tax, sometimes referred to as a “Penny for Progress.” Bobby Smith of the Committee appeared before County Council last night with a capital project sales tax update. He said the committee has received submissions from the Laurens County Airport Commission and from the agricultural community. He said they are very interested in having an Agriculture Center. Smith said, “Project ideas are due by the April 28 deadline, and we have developed a list of talking points to clear up any myths and/or misconceptions that the public may have.”
